Savannah is twenty-two squares laid out in 1733, and the whole historic district is walkable — which is why it carries so many weddings, milestone birthdays and mother-daughter weekends. Every square is a venue, the historic inns run small and personal, and the city knows how to host. Tybee Island is twenty minutes east for beach days; Jekyll and Cumberland Islands are further south and quieter, with wild horses on Cumberland and no cars. For a Georgia family this is a drive, not a flight, which changes the arithmetic entirely.

Two people, a historic inn or a garden apartment in the district, everything on foot, dinner on Jones Street, a day at Tybee. No flights, no rental car, no passport.

A whole historic house for a family or group, a private trolley for guests, a chef dinner in the courtyard, a boat day, and a Cumberland Island crossing.

A wedding weekend — ceremony in a square or a private garden, welcome party, reception at a historic venue, guest inns blocked and transport handled.
What to watch for
- Squares are public parks. A ceremony in one needs a City of Savannah permit, and there is a limit on chairs, amplified sound and the number of guests. Book it early and never assume.
- The historic district is cobblestone and brick. Heels sink, and wheelchairs and walkers need routes planned in advance.
- Summer humidity is genuine — a noon outdoor ceremony in July is hard on older guests. Late afternoon, always.
- St Patrick’s Day in Savannah is one of the largest celebrations in the country. If your dates are near it and you did not intend to be part of it, move them.
