The Algarve & Lisbon
Where a modest budget still buys a beautiful week.
Portugal is where we send travellers who want Europe to feel generous rather than expensive. The Algarve gives you golden cliffs, warm water and seafood grilled simply, and a villa there costs a fraction of the same villa in Spain or Italy. Pair it with three nights in Lisbon and you have a trip that reads far richer than it cost.
What a week actually costs
Indicative shapes, not quotes — an advisor verifies real prices for your exact dates before anything is offered.
Under $3,500 for the week
A family in a villa with a pool in Lagos or Tavira in shoulder season, a hire car, market cooking and boat caves one morning. This is the best value in western Europe.
$10,000–25,000
A cliffside villa with staff, a private chef, golf or sailing, Lisbon at either end with a driver.
$50,000+
A quinta or estate wedding — a long welcome table, a full production build, guest accommodation nearby.
What to watch for
- August is the Algarve’s own holiday month. Prices roughly double and the beaches fill.
- Atlantic water is cooler than the Mediterranean, even in July.
- Cliff beaches often mean a long stair or a lift. Check before booking with older guests.
- A legal Portuguese marriage requires documents filed in advance through the civil registry; start early or marry symbolically.
