Under $2,500 for the long weekend
Two people in a clean midtown or Brooklyn hotel in a quiet month, subway everywhere, one Broadway show booked early, museums, and eating in the neighbourhoods rather than the tourist blocks.
$10,000–25,000
A suite or a two-bedroom apartment, house seats for two shows, a car and driver for evenings, tasting menus booked six weeks out, a helicopter tour, a personal shopper.
$60,000+
A hotel buyout floor or a private residence for a family, a chartered evening, a private museum viewing where it can be arranged, and an event with full production.
What to watch for
- The restaurants worth flying for release tables 30 days ahead at 10am and are gone in minutes. That is an advisor’s job, not a traveller’s.
- December between Thanksgiving and New Year is the most expensive and most crowded fortnight of the year. Beautiful, and know what you are choosing.
- Choose the neighbourhood before the hotel. Twenty blocks in the wrong direction costs an hour a day.
- Broadway "premium" seats sold by third parties are often ordinary seats at a markup. Buy from the box office or through a trusted broker.
